INTERNATIONAL OCEAN SERVICES provide a comprehensive professional training curriculum, covering all aspects of the Offshore and Ocean yachtmaster courses. They operate all year round and their experienced instructors include Pete "Stokey" Woodall and Jim Allen, who between them, have sailed and taught extensively worldwide.
STOKEY has made 30 Trans-Atlantic crossings and sailed to the Azores some 85 times, teaching navigation, lifestyles and the psychology of ocean sailing. He has amassed over a quarter of a million sea miles and is a highly respected sailor.
JIM is a professional meteorologist and yachtsman who's activities have included Met advisor to the Whitbread Round the World Race and The British Admirals Cup Team. He has also been a BBC shipping forecaster and in recent years his duties have included Senior Met Officer at both Southampton and Gibraltar Weather Centres.
THEIR patience, knowledge and enthusiasm for sailing soon became obvious as well as infectious. These attributes set them aside as exceptional instructors. For many years they have both taught the theory of offshore/ocean sailing and, having experienced the realities of applying their own teaching, both agree that things are somewhat different in practice! This has given them the insight necessary to set up a new concept in the teaching of both the RYA Offshore and Ocean Yachtmaster courses that now uniquely combine both the theoretical and practical elements, which in turn, should give the aspiring yachtmaster a better understanding.
THE courses are five days in duration and consist of two days and one night shore based internationally, and three days and three nights aboard the P&O super-ferry "Pride of Bilbao" embarking on one of their mini cruises from Portsmouth to and from Bilbao, Northern Spain.
